Jordan Matthew Cox is an English professional cricketer born on 21 October 2000 in Margate, Kent.
A right-handed wicket-keeper batter, he plays for Essex in domestic cricket and has represented England across formats since 2024.
He joined the Kent academy at age 10, was educated at Wellesley House School and Felsted School, and signed his first professional contract with Kent in 2018.
After five seasons at Kent, Cox moved to Essex ahead of the 2024 season.
Cox holds an Australian passport through his mother and has played grade cricket in Sydney.
His parents, Stafford Cox, who has been involved in Kent league cricket as a player and umpire, and Roslyn, an Australian who played semi-professional tennis, fostered a sporting environment that contributed to his hand-eye coordination and athletic background.
Siblings
Jordan has one publicly known sibling, an older brother named Ashleigh Alisha Cox, often referred to as Ashleigh or AA Cox.
Born in July 1999 in Yeovil, Somerset, Ashleigh is roughly a year and a half older than Jordan.
He played age-group cricket for Kent from around the age of 10 until 16 or 17 and was a significant early influence on Jordan’s introduction to the sport.
Jordan has credited his brother with drawing him into cricket, noting that he would receive throw-downs from Ashleigh and often played in the same teams, competing against older players.
Career
Cox progressed through Kent’s youth system and made his Second XI appearances from 2017.
He debuted for Kent’s senior side in 2019 across formats, scoring a notable unbeaten 238 in the 2020 Bob Willis Trophy against Sussex.

The innings was the first first-class century in England by a player born in the 2000s, and Cox also shared a Kent-record 423-run partnership with Jack Leaning.
He played a key role in Kent’s 2021 Vitality Blast title win, earning Player of the Match in the final with an unbeaten 58 off 28 balls.
His memorable boundary-line fielding effort during the tournament earned him the nickname “Air Jordan”.
Cox featured in The Hundred for Oval Invincibles and later Welsh Fire, as well as franchise leagues including the Big Bash League with Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades and the SA20.
He joined Essex ahead of the 2024 season and quickly established himself with consistent run-scoring across red- and white-ball cricket.
Internationally, Cox represented England Under-19s, including at the 2020 World Cup.
His full England debut came in a T20I against Australia in September 2024, followed by ODI caps against the West Indies later that year.
After injury setbacks delayed earlier Test opportunities, Cox made his Test debut against New Zealand in June 2026.
He subsequently featured in England’s Test side, including the series against Pakistan.
Cox was also signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the 2026 IPL.
Accolades
Among his notable achievements, Cox was named Player of the Tournament in the 2018 ECB Super-4s. He earned Player of the Match honours in Kent’s 2021 T20 Blast final victory.
At Essex, he received his county cap in 2025 as the 169th player to receive the honour. He also won the club’s Performance of the Year award for a blistering 139 not out off 60 balls in the Vitality Blast.
In 2025, Cox was named the Professional Cricketers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year and selected in the PCA Team of the Year.
