    Kenya Airways Reduces Its Fleet To Improve Financial Position

    kenya airwaysKenya Airways (KQ) is reported to have sold two Boeing 737-700 airplanes in an effort to improve its current financial position.

    The transaction was arranged by the Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed national carrier and his been confirmed in a September filing by UK-based Air Partner.

    “Air Partner Remarketing has successfully sold and delivered two B737-700 aircraft and a GE engine for Kenya Airways,” the aviation services firm said in the statement.

    A price guide by Chicago-based Boeing revealed that a new B737-700 cost $82.4 million (Sh8.4 billion).

    Earlier, Air Partner announced that KQ had intended to lease the airplanes from an anonymous buyer.

    Kenya Airways has prioritized on selling aircraft and sub-leasing to other airlines in an effort to rebuild the company.

    According to KQ they still have plans to sell one B777-200ER before the end of the year while also mentioning that their restructuring is almost finalized.

    “The coming year will see a more stable fleet … The focus will be on ensuring the cabin product offered to our guests across the fleet is consistent and of a high standard,” the airline said in the report.
