    Kenya Beat Regional Rivals Uganda To Retain Elgon Cup

    Kenya registered their third successive Gold Cup win, defeating Uganda 38-22 in a thrilling encounter at Nairobi’s RFUEA Ground on Saturday 7 July 2018.

    Jacob Ojee out the Simbas ahead with a try on eight minutes, Darwin Mukidza sure with the conversion but the Ugandans soon hit back, Philip Wokorach with an unconverted try to make it 7-5.

    Further converted tries from Davis Chenge and Sam Onsomu saw the Simbas go 21-5 before Mukidza set up debutant Felix Ayange for try, adding the extras to see the Simbas lead 28-5 at the break.

    Uganda began the second half with purpose and were duly rewarded when Ivan Magomu went over the chalk, Phil Wokorach converting to bring the score to 28-12.

    They would continue to put Kenya under pressure but fell further behind when Mukidza drilled over a penalty to see the Simbas go 31-12 up.

    A yellow to Kenyan lock Andrew Chogo gave Uganda the impetus, scoring two quick tries through Michael Wokorach and the other Wokorach, Philip… The game finely poised at 31-22 before prop Moses Amusala, on as a second half replacement, crashed over the line, Mukidza converting to secure the result for Kenya.

    The result also saw Kenya retain the Elgon Cup on a 72-38 aggregate having won the first leg in Kampala 34-16 on May 26.
