    Machakos County Closes 17 Restaurants Over Cholera Outbreak

    17 restaurants in Machakos have been shut down following a cholera outbreak.

    The directive was issued by District Public Health officer, Zachary Ochonka saying they had not met the health standards.

    Mr Ochonka insisted that they would allow the joints re-open once they improve their standards.

    “There is no single reported cholera case in Machakos but we are putting adequate measures to ensure our people are safe.”

    Eleven of the eateries are in Kangundo town, four in Kakuyuni and two in Kwa -Akamba market.

    One person with cholera related symptoms died on Monday at Bishop Kioko hospital.

    Cholera outbreaks have been reported in Murang’a, Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru counties.
