    Mai Charoenpura is a prominent Thai entertainer known professionally as Mai Charoenpura.

    Born Siriwimol Charoenpura on January 5, 1969, in Bangkok, Thailand, she has built a long-standing career as a singer, actress, and author.

    As the daughter of Thai actor Surin Charoenpura (stage name Ruj Ronnapop) and Winee Sontikool, she grew up in a family connected to the entertainment industry.

    She received her education at Farringtons School in England, which contributed to her early exposure to diverse influences before returning to pursue her career in Thailand.

    Mai has three sisters, Venic White, Vipavee Maguire, and a half-sister, the well-known actress Intira Charoenpura also known as Sine Inthira Charoenpura.

    Intira is her younger half-sister from their father’s side, and the two have occasionally been noted in the public eye for their family ties within the Thai entertainment world, though they have also faced public differences in the past.

    Career

    Charoenpura debuted as a pop singer in 1989, quickly rising to prominence in the Thai music scene.

    She has released dozens of albums over the decades, along with numerous music videos and live performances at concerts.

    Her music career has spanned from the late 1980s to the present, establishing her as one of Thailand’s enduring pop icons, particularly recognized for her contributions during the 1990s when she became a notable figure in dance music.

    In addition to singing, she has maintained a parallel career in acting since the 1980s, appearing in various Thai television series and films.

    She gained international recognition for her role as the villainous Lady Srisudachan in the 2001 epic historical film The Legend of Suriyothai, directed by Chatrichalerm Yukol, which was released theatrically in the United States in 2003.

    Other notable film roles include performances in Memory (2008) and Meat Grinder (2009).

    She has also appeared in television dramas such as Krong Kam.

    Beyond performing, Mai has authored works and performed at high-profile events, including a 2007 concert in Manchester organized for former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

    Accolades

    Charoenpura earned the Best Actress award at the Star Entertainment Awards for her performance in the thriller Memory (2008).

    Her contributions to the arts culminated in one of Thailand’s highest honors when she was named a National Artist of Thailand in 2009, acknowledging her outstanding and lasting impact on the nation’s cultural landscape in performing arts.
