Orders From Above? Mainstream Media Switches Off Live Coverage Of Jacque Maribe, Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu Case Proceedings

The murder case facing media personality Jackie Maribe and her fiancee Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu took a dramatic twist today after mainstream TV stations switched off live coverage of the case proceeding.

In what looked like orders from above, leading TV stations in the country switched off the live coverage of the case without explanation to the viewers.

The trend started with Citizen TV, where Maribe is an employee before KTN News followed suit. K24 followed minutes later and started airing sports news.

Noting the presence of political heavyweights in today’s bail hearing, it looks like the media houses acted from ‘orders from above’. Among those in court today included Sabina Chege and Johnson Sakaja. Last week, the proceedings were attended by Moses Kuria. A notable Denis Itumbi has been attending all the sessions.

This puts into question the objectivity of the Kenyan media, and whether there are more parties in the Monicah Kimani’s murder case. Last week, Kahawa Tungu‘s investigative desk revealed that powerful people could be involved in Monica Kimani’s murder.

Kahawa Tungu revealed that Monica was held at JKIA for more than three hours for carrying an undisclosed amount of money.

A call from a single well placed person bought Monica’s freedom, leading her to her death.

Also, it was in the public domain that Jackie Maribe severally told detectives that the case was going ‘nowhere’.

The body language of Irungu in court is also is speaking volumes, seemingly staying unperturbed by the proceedings.

Today, Irungu popularly known as Jowie was seen rolling eyes and making faces when he knew the camera was focusing on him.

This comes as the two were charged afresh with murder, with the charge sheet being edited to add they they were involved in Monicah’s murder alongside ‘others’ who were not in the court.
