Former nominated senator Millicent Omanga has been removed as a member of the Board of Directors of Kenya Shipyards Limited.
The revocation, effective April 30, 2026, was announced by Defence Cabinet Secretary Roselinda Soipan Tuya through a Gazette notice. Omanga had been appointed to the board on January 14, 2025.
Her removal comes amid heightened political activity, with Omanga recently declaring her bid for Nairobi Woman Representative under the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) associated with Rigathi Gachagua. She has also publicly criticised President William Ruto, calling for him to serve only one term.
Separately, former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici has also been removed as Director and Chairperson of the Board of Kenya Seed Company Limited.
In a letter dated April 30, 2026, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi directed the immediate removal of Ngirici, citing provisions within the company’s Articles of Association that allow for the replacement or dismissal of directors.
The letter, addressed to Managing Director Sammy K. Chepsiror, instructed that the changes be effected immediately, although no specific reason was given for the decision.
Ngirici’s removal came a day after she publicly announced her exit from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party to support an opposition outfit, as she prepares to vie for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.
