Murang’a county executive member for Water and Irrigation Paul Macharia was on Thursday charged with robbery with violence.
The CEC is accused of robbing Eston Gathima a physically challenged board member of Sh13,450.
On August 27, the CEC in the company of several ward representatives stormed Kiawambeu treatment works in Kiharu where they assaulted Mr Gathima.
They were caught on camera manhandling him and ordering him out of the premises. He sought refuge with anti-riot police officers who did not protect him.
Governor Mwangi wa Iria has been in confrontations with Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company (MUWASCO) workers after he ordered for residents to stop paying for water.

Wa Iria has been seeking to take over the management of the water sector.
Water companies in the county had moved to the High Court to bar the county government from managing the water sector but lost the case after the court ruled that water and sanitation services are devolved functions.
