Beware of food in Nairobi as it has gone for months without being inspected due to lack of chemicals used to inspect the food.

According to Nairobi Health CEC Hitan Majevda the chemicals have not been available since he got into office in November 2017.

“When I took over this office nothing was done in the labs. They were run down and lacked basic equipment and reagents. We are however restocking the agents and will resume testing soon,” said Majevda.

The lack of testing raises questions on how permits for businesses operating food were given licenses without the necessary inspection between November and February.

Aflotoxins that may go undetected due to lack of inspection can be harmful for human consumption if consumed  for a long period of time.
