Kenyan Premier League outfit Nakumatt FC has been renamed Mount Kenya United with Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria taking over as their patron.
The name change has been approved by the Sports Registrar in accordance with the sports Act 2013.
Francis Mureithi will serve as the chairman till next elections in ninety days following the registration.
“Mt. Kenya is a dream I have held over a long time and this will only be good news for Kenyan football. Our immediate focus is to set our sights on winning KPL 2019. We will be beefing up our squad for that mission while also developing junior and women teams,” the legislator said.

The club has already secured two corporate sponsors namely “Mobisave” and “Eqwipetrol.”
The club’s new home and training ground “will be unveiled as soon as we clear with KPL and FKF leadership.”
Kuria, a self-confessed Gor Mahia supporter has said that “at this point I bid farewell to my club of birth and choice, Gor Mahia. Though I set sail to new waters, you will remain in my heart.”
Grapevine is rife that the new outfit is salivating for the signature of Gor Mahia attacking midfielder and Kenyan international Francis Kahata who hails from the larger Mount Kenya region.
