Police in Siaya are investigating the recovery of a loaded pistol that was allegedly abandoned by a customer who fled a nightclub without settling a Sh10,000 bill.

The firearm was recovered on Saturday morning at Dossier Night Club in Siaya Township after staff alerted police.

The club management said a commotion broke out at the club in the early hours of the morning when an unidentified customer reportedly disagreed with the management over an unpaid bill of Sh10,000.

Club security intervened and allowed the visibly intoxicated man to rest at a corner table after the situation had calmed down.

Police said the customer later left the premises unnoticed and drove away in a silver Toyota Fielder without paying the bill.

At around 7:30 a.m., while cleaning the club, a cleaner discovered an object resembling a firearm on the floor near the table where the customer had been resting.

The matter was reported to Siaya Police Station, prompting officers to visit the scene.

The officers recovered a Glock pistol loaded with a magazine containing 13 rounds of ammunition.

The firearm was secured in the police armoury pending forensic examination and further investigations aimed at identifying and tracing its owner. Police are also pursuing the suspect who fled the nightclub.

Meanwhile, police in Kiambu County arrested two suspects following a shooting incident in Mwihoko, Githurai Sub-County, in which a man allegedly fired a pistol in public before assaulting one of two complainants.

The incident occurred at about 2pm on July 11 outside Southern Gardens Apartments in the Mwihoko-Kilimambogo area.

The complainants told police they were standing beside the road near the apartment’s parking area when a silver Toyota Wish carrying three men stopped near them.

One of the occupants, who was seated in the front passenger seat, allegedly got out of the vehicle, drew a pistol from his waist, cocked it and fired a shot in their direction while appearing to be intoxicated. He then allegedly brandished the firearm before physically assaulting one of them. The third occupant remained inside the vehicle as the suspects drove off towards the Kilimambogo 46 area.

Police officers responded to the scene and, with the help of CCTV footage from the apartment, identified the vehicle and two of its occupants. Although no spent cartridge was recovered, detectives later arrested the driver and his friend.

During a search, officers recovered a firearm licence from one of the victims that is valid until August 15, 2026. However, no firearm was found at the time of the arrests.

The complainants positively identified the two suspects, and the Toyota Wish was detained at Mwihoko Police Station for further investigations.

No injuries were reported during the incident. Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the whereabouts of the firearm and the involvement of the third occupant.
