The Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, protecting democratic freedoms, and ensuring that all Kenyans can freely express their views without fear or intimidation.
Speaking at Rutune School in Nyeri County, the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo, declared that the administration will not condone political violence, hooliganism, or any unlawful conduct in the country’s political and social spaces.
Dr. Omollo stressed that while freedom of expression is a constitutional right, it must be exercised within the confines of the law. He warned that cases involving violence, intimidation, or unlawful mobilization would be addressed through established legal and investigative processes.
“Security agencies remain vigilant and will ensure accountability for anyone engaging in acts that threaten public order,” he said.
The Principal Secretary commended National Government Administration Officers in the county, led by County Commissioner Josephat Biwot, for strengthening community safety initiatives.
Security teams have intensified operations against illicit alcohol and are working closely with chiefs, assistant chiefs, village elders, and elected leaders to reinforce social cohesion.
Dr. Omollo also expressed concern over incidents of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), calling on communities to work together to protect vulnerable individuals and uphold human dignity.
During his visit, Dr. Omollo met with the school’s leadership and Sub-County education officials to assess academic performance and enrollment levels. Despite having sufficient teaching staff, Rutune School faces low student enrollment, prompting calls for stronger parental and community engagement.
He outlined key national education reforms, including the recruitment of over 100,000 teachers, construction of more than 25,000 classrooms, implementation of the Competency-Based Education curriculum, and reforms in university funding aimed at strengthening human capital development.
He noted that the transition rate from primary school to Junior Secondary School in Nyeri County stands at 99 percent, reflecting steady progress in education access and continuity.
Education as a Collective Responsibility
Also addressing the gathering was the Principal Secretary for Energy, Alex Wachira, who urged students to remain disciplined and focused on their studies. He emphasized the importance of faith, resilience, and hard work in achieving success.
Mr. Wachira called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to actively support schools and ensure every child has access to quality education.
Development Projects in Mukurweini
Dr. Omollo further highlighted major development initiatives underway in Mukurweini Constituency, including road projects valued at Ksh. 2.9 billion, modern markets worth Ksh. 162 million, affordable housing projects valued at Ksh. 980 million, and the construction of student hostels with a capacity of 3,000 beds.
He said the projects demonstrate the administration’s commitment to equitable development and improved livelihoods.
Among leaders present was Wahome Wamatinga. The event brought together students, teachers, parents, and community members in a show of unity and shared commitment to peace, education, and development in Nyeri County.
