A driver who was reversing his car fatally hit a boy aged two years in Biyamathow village, Habaswain, Wajir County.
The incident happened on Sunday August 17 evening outside a homestead, police said.
The minor was in the company of other children and was playing when the accident happened.
The driver of the Toyota Succeed had parked the car at the homestead and got into the motor vehicle oblivious of the dangers outside and reversed.
It was then that he hit and crushed the boy killing him, police said.
He was to Biyamathow Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
The car was detained for inspection as part of investigations into the incident.
The accident was among nine fatal ones reported on Sunday which claimed ten lives. Police said among the deceased were three pedestrians, three pillion passengers, two drivers, a rider and a passenger.
According to police, 38 people were seriously injured in the accidents. They are admitted in various hospitals.
For instance, along Kaplong-Bomet road, two people were killed after their car plunged into a river.
The driver and a male passenger in the lorry died on the spot, police said.
A third man who was in the lorry sustained a fracture on the left leg and was admitted in hospital in stable condition.
The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy, police said.
And at Chandumba area along Eregi – Chavakali murram road, a rider died on the spot after an accident.
Witnesses said he hit a road bump, lost control of the motorcycle and landed on the road and died on the spot. Along the Thika Highway, a speeding car hit and killed a pedestrian who was crossing the road in the Pangani area.
In Kiambu’s Gatundu area, along Gatundu-Gacharage road, a pedestrian was killed as she crossed the area.
This is after a speeding car failed to stop and swept the woman.
A second victim was injured and admitted to hospital. The driver dashed from the scene to the local police station fearing he would be harmed.
Police collected the body from the scene to the mortuary pending an investigation.
