    Sarah Wairimu charged with giving false information, swearing false affidavit over “lost passport”

    Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, also known as Sarah Wairimu Kamotho Cohen, who is the widow of slain Dutch national Tob Cohen was Thursday charged with giving false information to a police officer and swearing a false affidavit regarding the alleged loss of her passport.

    The Kibera High Court on Thursday heard that on February 20, 2023, at Munyange Police Station in Othaya, Nyeri County, Wairimu knowingly and maliciously provided false information to Chief Inspector Mercy Riungu, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS).

    She claimed her passport was lost, prompting the officer to issue her with a police abstract based on the false report.

    In a second count, Wairimu was charged with false swearing contrary to Section 114as read with Section 36 of the Penal Code.

    It is alleged that on the same day, at Pamki House in Nyeri Town, she appeared before Advocate Muchiri wa Gathoni and swore a false affidavit claiming her passport was lost, while knowing it was not.

    Wairimu denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul at the Kibera Law Courts.

    She remains remanded at Lang’ata Women’s Prison, where she is also facing trial in a separate murder case related to the death of her husband Cohen.

    Prosecution was led by Samson Ng’etich.
