Controversial South Africa based preacher Shepherd Bushiri is now headed to Kenya as he faces strong accusations of money laundering and bribing innocent by-standers to validate his “miracles”.

Shepherd Bushiri who is currently facing investigations by South Africa’s Hawks Police unit is planning a major meeting on 17th of April at the Kasarani Indoor Arena. Authorities in Zambia and Botswana have banned the “prophet”.

Two individuals names William Kalonga and Wisdom Nyirenda are his fronts in Nairobi and Kisumu respectively, running his Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) churches.

The Hawks claim that Shepherd Bushiri orchestrates false miracles as part of his services, while his collaborators demand to be paid more for playing their part in his con miracles. He is also accused of encouraging the poor to hand over their savings and even sell their belongings in exchange for “miracles.”

    Anti-Bushiri Protests

South African police also accuse Bushiri (Malawian) of flying more than Ksh 25 million to Malawi every week to put in his many businesses in the country. The money is flown out of the country in Bushiri’s private jet.

Hawks spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed to The Sowetan that they have launched a money laundering probe into the Major One, as Bushiri calls himself.

South Africans have held protests outside Bushiri’s church over his con missions. They have also signed protests and delivered to South Africa’s Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights) in Braamfontein.

One of his local associates, Wisdom Nyirenda conned people more than Ksh 5 million to organise miracle services from Bushiri.

Bushiri is among the flamboyant preachers in Africa who prey on the gullibility of humans as well as riding on the desperation and misery of many to promise them some instant healing or success.
