Detectives, working closely with the Kibra Sarang’ombe community policing team, rescued a six-year-old girl who had been reported missing on September 22, 2025.

A report filed at Runda Police Station indicated that the girl was picked up from school by an unknown person, and all initial attempts to locate her proved unsuccessful. Soon after, her mother received a message from an unknown number demanding Sh300,000 for her release.

Investigators immediately launched a forensic-led operation that directed them to the Soweto slums in Kibra, police said.
There, they found the young girl sleeping inside an unfinished church building, wrapped in worn-out beddings. Unfortunately, the suspect had fled just moments before officers arrived, leaving the child behind.

At the scene, detectives recovered the girl’s school uniform and shoes.
She has since been taken to a medical facility for care and observation.

Meanwhile, the hunt for the suspect continues, with detectives pursuing key leads to ensure the kidnapper is brought to justice.
Elsewhere, the Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court in Maralal directed the destruction of sandalwood valued at approximately Sh7.8 million.

The haul, weighing 7.8 tonnes, was seized on September 21, 2025, at Ntunyu Village in Samburu County by a joint security team.

The destruction, carried out at the Maralal Police Station yard under the court’s instructions, was supervised by magistrate Sitati Temba.

In attendance were members of the County Security and Intelligence Committee (CSIC), along with officers from the National Police Service (NPS), the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).

Meanwhile, the two suspects, Francis Maina Waweru and Francis Kinuthia Karanja, who have pleaded not guilty, remain in custody at Maralal GK Prison awaiting further court proceedings.
