Detectives are investigating an incident where a police officer attached to former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko was robbed of his pistol in Muchatha, Kiambu County.

The Berretta pistol had 14 bullets at the time it was taken away by force from the constable of police attached to SGB in Nairobi.

The officer told his colleagues the incident happened on April 26 at Guango bus stop at about midnight.

He said he was on a motorcycle headed for his home in Banana when two other men on a different motorcycle attacked him using a wooden stick.

They then sped off prompting the officer and his rider to also pursue them to seek an explanation on the motive.

They did not know the move was a trap.

On blocking the other rider, an argument ensued with more riders joining. This forced the police officer to reach for his pistol and shot to the air once in efforts to scare the rowdy mob.

It however, did not stop them as they became more agitated and attacked the officer flooring him.

It was then that he sustained injuries in the head and was robbed of the pistol, he said.

He was also robbed of his mobile phone.

The attackers and robbers escaped the scene as the officer was rushed to the hospital where he was admitted for a day.

He later reported the matter to Karuri police station narrating the ordeal.

Police visited the scene of the attack as part of the efforts to trace the attackers. There are fears the weapon may be used in other robberies, police said.

Meanwhile, police in Muranga are investigating an incident where a police officer lost his rifle magazine that had 20 bullets. The officer was among a group of officers that was chasing and clashing with a gang that was stealing pineapples from Del Monte farm in the area.

The mob clashed with police on Tuesday as they defied orders to abandon stolen products.

Police have posted a unit at the expansive farm to help in dealing with the menace.

Hundreds of pineapples are stolen from the farm yearly which the management has termed as a loss to them hence the move to create a police unit to deal with the same.

Police said they are looking for the missing magazine.

Past clashes between security and the said thieves have left at least three people dead.
