Thirdway Alliance Kenya members are embroiled in wrangles that have escalated to nasty exchange of emails between the party leadership.

Kahawa Tungu understands that the divisions were escalated by the ouster of Fredrick Okango as the party’s Secretary General last week.

The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) suspended Okango after appeared to contradict the party’s position on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) and expected constitutional review process.

In documents seen by this writer, a meeting was convened on Monday, February 3, to among other things dismiss Deputy Party Leader Angela Mwikali Nyalita, for opposing the suspension of Okango.

Prior to the meeting, Ms Mwikali and Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot had an argument over Okango’s suspension.

An email conversation between the two clearly shows that the leaders are not reading from the same script.

Ms Mwikali accuses Aukot of intimidation over her stance on Okango’s dismissal.

She claims that “arrogant” Aukot was mad at her after she refused to cast her “vote on phone regarding Okango’s purported suspension”.

“I know this is what is hurting you. I have no apologies to make. I believe in rule of law, ” Ms Mwikali wrote.

She maintains that Okango’s ouster was illegal, and for that reason, he remains to be the party’s Secretary General.

In an utter demeaning tone, Aukot responded to Mwikali saying NEC’s decision on the removal of Okango from office stands.

“Your vote is and was inconsequential. We are past SG. Bring your brains to the meeting on Monday and lets hear what brainy things you will say, assuming that you will be in the right mental state,” the email from Aukot reads.

Ms Mwikali accused the party leader of “using and calling women names” further urging him to stop the “use and dump mentality”.

To which Aukot responded, “Only a fool can even attempt to use someone like you. stick to your league of small boys. You display no brains at all”.

In the Monday meeting, attended by six NEC members, Ms Mwikali says, some members had been compromised to “fire” her.

“There was also a communication going around from a section of NEC members confirming the Monday agenda to fire the DPL. I expected an impartial meeting. This was not the case so I could not sit in such a compromised meeting where the outcome had already been decided, ” said Ms Mwikali in a letter addressed to NEC Chairman Miruru Waweru dated Tuesday, February 4.

She claims that Aukot copied the email conversations with a section of NEC members to taint her name.

The Deputy Party Leader has now accused Aukot of being disrespectful further calling on him to substantiate what he meant by the “small boys” remark.

Okango was suspended over his proposal for the merger of Thirdway Alliance’s failed Punguza Mizigo Initiative and BBI.

In a statement that was dismissed by Aukot, Okango stated that some NEC members were of the opinion that the two process should be merged to avoid running two parallel constitutional amendment processes that would confuse Kenyans and undermine each other’s efforts.

He also noted that the merger will be beneficial to the Punguza Mizigo initiative as the party lacks proper funding to push its agenda.

“We urge BBI to allow the wishes of Kenyans of ensuring that the issues raised by Punguza Mizigo are equally implemented together with the BBI in the spirit of inclusivity, ” said Okango.

Okango has since vowed to take legal action against the party for “unprocedural” dismissal if the “purported suspension” is not withdrawn within seven days.
