Two suspects were arrested after a villager was stoned to death in Olontoto village, Narok County.

The victim was accused of stealing a rooster in the area before he was confronted and killed in the Sunday evening drama.

Police said Simon Kasaine, 39 was killed by a mob after he had been accused of stealing a rooster from a home. The owner of the rooster told police the deceased confronted him attempting to harm him when he found him with the chicken.

This prompted him to raise an alarm, which attracted locals. A mob later stoned him to death. Police visited the scene and arrested the man who raised the alarm and another suspect as other villagers escaped the area in fear of being caught.

Police said they recovered a Maasai sword and a rungu with bloodstains along with the rooster and the gunny bag that the animal was kept in.

The two were expected in court to face murder charges.

In Kiguone area, Nakuru County a suspect was lynched as he tried to steal avocado from a plantation. The suspect is said to have entered a private farm and started to harvest avocados. This prompted a guard there to raise an alarm, which attracted a mob.

The mob stoned the man to death before police arrived at the scene. Police said ten pieces of avocado were recovered from the victim. A hunt on the suspects behind the attack is ongoing, police said.

Police usually discourage mob lynching and want suspects be surrendered to authorities for processing and prosecution.

Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise in various parts of the country amid calls on authorities to conduct civic education on the issue.

Some of the victims are framed and killed in the process.
