Two people were shot dead and a motorcycle rider injured after suspected Turkana bandits ambushed them along the Kasei-Morita road in Pokot North, West Pokot County.

The incident occurred on Friday evening, August 28, 2026 in Morita.

The victims were travelling on a motorcycle when they came under gunfire from the suspected attackers.

The deceased, a man and a woman who were passengers on the motorcycle, were fatally wounded and died at the scene.

The rider managed to escape despite sustaining injuries and was rushed to Kasei Dispensary for treatment.

Police said the identities of the two deceased victims had not been established by the time of filing the report.

NPR officers who were near the area responded after receiving reports of the attack and launched a pursuit of the suspected attackers.

The shooting has renewed concerns over insecurity along roads linking communities in the volatile border areas of West Pokot and neighbouring Turkana County, where armed cattle raids and retaliatory attacks have occasionally been reported.

Police operations to track down the suspected attackers were ongoing.

And one person is feared dead and another injured following a shooting incident during an attack involving rival groups of herders in Igembe Central, Meru County.

The incident occurred on Friday night, August 28, 2026, in Chee village, where police said Somali herders allegedly invaded a settlement occupied by Meru herders.

According to police, officers on patrol in the Eastleigh area responded to a distress call from General Service Unit (GSU) officers stationed at Mariara.

During the incident, two Meru herders, an adult and a minor, were reportedly shot.

The minor, whose identity had not been established, was allegedly shot dead during the confrontation.

Officers from Kangeta Police Station, the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) and the GSU attempted to reach the location where the minor was reportedly killed but were unable to access the manyatta due to impassable roads and difficult terrain.

Police officers were still combing the area as efforts continued to establish the full circumstances of the incident and secure the area.

Last week, two camel herders were killed in the same area in an ambush.

This has sparked tensions which has escalated to fighting.
