    Ugandan MP Bobi Wine Arrested After Police Shoot Driver Dead

    Musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine has been arrested after police killed his driver.

    Bobi Wine said that the police were targeting him but instead got his driver.

    “Police has shot my driver dead thinking they’ve shot at me,” he said, on twitter after posting a photograph of a man drenched in blood.

    Bobi Wine was arrested for allegedly campaigning for an opposition candidate in the north-western town of Arua where a by election is meant to take place.

    President Yoweri Museveni  had vowed to support the ruling party candidate. The police spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed the arrest.

    “We arrested Bobi Wine and others this morning and he is in our custody,” said Emilian Kayima.

    Bobi Wine is accused of obstructing the presidential motorcade headed to a parallel rally and one of the vehicles windscreen was damaged as a result. The police opened fire to disperse the rowdy crowd and one bullet ended up killing Bobi Wine’s driver.

    The opposition candidate Kassiano Wadri was also arrested . The by election is set for Wednesday.
