Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday arrived in Lagos, Nigeria, ahead of the Future Africa Leaders Awards ceremony.

This is a continental initiative that recognises and nurtures young Africans driving positive change through leadership, education, youth empowerment and mentorship.

Kenyatta is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the high-profile event, which brings together emerging leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs and civil society actors from across Africa.

He will also announce the winner of the prestigious Star Prize, the highest honour awarded during the ceremony.

The Future Africa Leaders Awards aim to identify, celebrate and support young Africans who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and a tangible impact on their communities, with a strong focus on inspiring the next generation of changemakers.

The former president was accompanied to Lagos by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, underscoring the significance of Kenya’s continued engagement in continental leadership and youth development initiatives.

Kenyatta has in recent years remained active in regional and international forums, advocating for youth inclusion, peace-building and sustainable development across Africa.

His participation in the Lagos event is expected to highlight the critical role of young people in shaping the continent’s future and advancing inclusive growth.

Musyoka has said he was invited as an honoured guest in recognition of his long-standing leadership record and recent international accolades, including being named the London Political Summit and Awards 10th Anniversary Africa Political Leader and Personality of the Year.

“The WPF Party Leader’s participation underscores his continued commitment to pan-African unity, youth empowerment, and the advancement of leadership excellence across the continent. The Party Leader is expected to return shortly after the event.”
