President Uhuru Kenyatta has advised against politicizing the war against corruption and attacking the investigative agencies.

Speaking during the launch of Kenya’s 2nd Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Country Review Report at State House, the head of state asked leaders to come together and fight the vice.

“It is not me …corruption has been identified as a stumbling block..again there is no politics there..let us allow the agencies to do their work… let us not turn this to community fights, into individual fights,” the president said.

He also noted that the fight is not directed at a certain individual or tribe.

“You will hear that so and so is being targeted.. .we must deal with corruption and the fact is that whether we want to accept it or not it exists.. why don’t we fix it instead of politicking ..jameni … ,” he continued.

His sentiments might have been directed at his deputy, William Ruto who has in the past said that the DCI lacks backing by law to probe economic crimes.

According to the DP, the DCI should hand over investigations to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

“We will refuse and reject any attempt by people to put together a political narrative using corruption and propaganda to drive a scheme to undermine Government programmes and projects, with the aim of destroying the Big Four agenda,” he said.

His allies have in the past accused DCI George Kinoti of going after projects that could have Ruto ascend to power in 2022.

Kenyatta also asked Kenyans to come together and compete in a civilized manner.

“We can compete in a civilized manner, recognizing that after competition nobody is leaving Kenya.. .when we say we are reaching out, how do you expect me to say I am governing if I don’t reach out to people?” he posed.
