The Directorate of Veterinary Services has announced internship opportunities for eligible veterinary surgeons and veterinary paraprofessionals who graduated in 2025 or earlier.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, the State Department for Livestock Development in the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development said the internship is a statutory requirement under Sections 15(1) and 17(1) of the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals Act, No. 29 of 2011.

The programme will be guided by the Internship Policy and Guidelines for the Public Service, the Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Paraprofessionals Regulations of 2013, and the Kenya Veterinary Board Internship Guidelines.

The internship is scheduled to begin in January 2027, with applications closing on November 13, 2026.

Applicants are required to have a certificate of training at the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM), Bachelor of Science (BSc), diploma or certificate level from a university or training institution recognised by the Kenya Veterinary Board.

Other mandatory documents include a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate, Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) certificate, national identity card, birth certificate, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN certificate and a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.

Applicants must also provide proof of registration with the Social Health Authority (SHA) and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), personal accident insurance cover, a bank account in their own name and two recent passport-size photographs.

The ministry said applicants must register with the Kenya Veterinary Board before submitting their applications.
