Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe has asked the court to release on bail as she was only facing prosecution because she was in love with the person the prosecution has interest in.

In an affidavit replying to the one filed by the prosecution and the victims family, Maribe said that the prosecution had no evidence linking her to the murder of Monica Kimani saying that her only link was the fact that she shared a house and a car with the accused person Joseph Kuria Irungu alias Jowie whom she admits was her fiance at the time of the incident.

“Except for these three aspects of association with a person the prosecution is interested in, the prosecution on its face has no witnesses and or forensic material to associate me with the murder directly or indirectly,” Maribe says.

The journalist admitted to having communicated with Irungu stating that they were lovers at the time and communication was inevitable. She asked the court not to deny her bail on the basis of communication between her and her lover.

“Without a doubt, the 1st accused was my fiance as at then. In the circumstances, I definitely communicated with him. It is most unfair to use the communications between me and the 1st accused in the given circumstances of our then existing relationship as a reason to withhold bail,” Jacque said.

In the affidavit she also reveals that police showed her where the clothes had been burnt which she said was away from her compound and therefore she would not have had knowledge of the said action. She said that she had given police control of her house from September 29 and had no intention of interfering with the investigation.

“The investigators in the course of investigating showed me where they said the fire was lit. The location is not in my residence nor my compound. It is away from the compound hence it is false to allege the burning was within my residence,” she revealed.

The journalist also said that due to the fact that she was a public figure and people knew her face it would be impossible for her to fail to appear in court or jump bail.

“I am a well-known TV journalist having worked at various stations the latest which is Citizen TV as a news anchor with an easily recognisable face. Most Kenyans are conversant with my job and face and can easily spot me anywhere therefore making it impossible for me to jump bail,” Maribe says.

She urged the court to release on a bail of Sh.350000 due to her humble background.
