    Worker Dies, Two Injured in Westlands Scaffold Collapse

    A construction worker died while two others were seriously injured after a lift scaffold collapsed at a construction site in Nairobi’s Brookside area.

    According to police, the incident happened at around 9am on Monday, May 18, at the Gaia construction site along Brookside Garden in the Spring Valley area under Gigiri Sub-County.

    The three carpenters were reportedly working on a lift scaffold on the 14th floor when it suddenly collapsed.

    The deceased was identified as Dominic Owino Ouma, 33, who sustained fatal injuries in the accident.

    He was rushed to MP Shah Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

    The two injured workers suffered injuries with one sustaining a dislocated left leg and was taken to Kenyatta National Hospital while anothers one sustained a serious injury to the right eye and was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital.

    Police officers from Spring Valley Police Station visited the scene alongside crime scene investigators from the Nairobi Regional Headquarters, who documented and preserved the area as investigations into the cause of the collapse commenced.

    Authorities said a progress report on the incident will follow.

    Elsewhere, a 35-year-old farmhand died after falling from an avocado tree in Bungoma County’s Kimaeti Sub-County.

    Police said the incident was reported at Myanga Police Station on Sunday, May 18, after the victim reportedly fell from the tree while at work.

    Officers who visited the scene found the body of Kelvin Wafula lying beneath an avocado tree on a farm. Preliminary investigations established that he had fallen from the tree, which was estimated to be about 20 feet high, and died on the spot.

    Police noted that the deceased sustained visible bruises on both legs.

    The deceased, a resident of Nambale Sub-County in Busia County, was reportedly employed as a farmhand by a local farmer identified as Isaac.

    Crime scene personnel documented and photographed the scene before the body was moved to Kocholia Sub-County Hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.

    Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
