kcseThe Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has cancelled KCSE results for 1,205 candidates from the 9 out of 10 centres accused of exam malpractices.

Speaking at the KNEC headquarters, Chairman Professor George Magoha said that students from one of the centre’s were cleared of all cheating allegations.

Teachers found guilty of having colluded with the students or aided in the cheating will be dealt with by their employer, Teacher Service Commission (TSC), Magoha said.

Students whose results have been cancelled will get another shot as they are advised to re-register for this year’s exam before February 28.

After receiving the 2017 KCSE results, President Uhuru Kenyatta asked TSC to severely punish teachers caught cheating to serve as an example to others. He similarly urged the commission to reward principals, schools and subject teachers who excelled.

St Theresa Girls Senior Schoo, Gilgil was first to be deregistered, on November 13, 2017.

The school was asked to surrender its registration certificate to the ministry with immediate effect.

The school principal is said to have found been guilty of opening examination materials before time.
