Police in Kamagambo , Rongo, Migori County Wednesday arrested a matatu driver for drug trafficking.
Calvin Otieno was carrying students and was heading to Kisumu when he was flagged down.
A staggering 401 rolls of the illicit weed were recovered during a search.
A tip-off from members of the public alerted authorities about a suspicious public service vehicle heading to Kisumu from Migori.
The illicit cargo was packed in a traveling bag placed atop the matatu carrier cabin, police said.
The suspect appeared to had banked on the assumption that such company would shield him from suspicion.
The arrest took place after officers set up an ambush and intercepted the vehicle.
“A search revealed two bags containing 401 sizable rolls of bhang, weighing 34.4 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Sh1,032,000,” police said in a report posted on the Director of Criminal Investigations X account.
Okoth is currently in custody at Kamagambo Police Station, undergoing processing pending his court appearance.
