The Government of Kenya has fully paid the required Sh3.9 billion ($30 million) hosting fee to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, in a statement issued on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, said the payment demonstrates Kenya’s commitment and readiness to successfully co-host the continental tournament.

He noted that meeting the financial and institutional obligations strengthens the country’s credibility in delivering the event.

Mvurya also announced that the government has set up a restructured multi-agency Local Organising Committee to oversee preparations.

“Following the CAF inspection report, we will be embarking on accelerated implementation of all infrastructure and operational compliance requirements,” the statement said.

This will include fast-tracking the construction and upgrade of match venues, training facilities, transport and logistics systems, as well as security and broadcast infrastructure.

Kenya secured the rights to co-host the 2027 tournament alongside Tanzania and Uganda in September 2023.

The three countries presented a joint “Pamoja” bid, beating rival bids from Senegal, Egypt and Botswana.
