    Fire destroys 20 staff houses at Lang’ata Women’s Prison in Nairobi

    A fire incident at Lang’ata Women’s Prison on the night of April 1, 2025, destroyed at least 20 semi-permanent houses occupied by prison staff.

    Firefighting units were immediately alerted, prompting a response from both Nairobi City County Government and the Kenya Defence Forces. Two fire engines were dispatched, and with the help of prison staff, the teams managed to contain the blaze by around 9:00pm.

    Police confirmed that no fatalities or injuries were reported during the incident. However, property of unknown value was destroyed in the inferno.

    The cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations currently underway.

    Elsewhere along Kiambu Road, a petrol station caught fire destroying property. Police said at least three cars were burnt in the incident that happened Wednesday night.

    The incident caused panic among nearby residents as the fire raged. It was later contained by fire engines that were called there.

    Meanwhile, a fire incident at Emulakha Primary School destroyed key facilities, including a classroom, library and examination room, on the night of April 1, 2026.

    The blaze destroyed the school library, an examination room, and one classroom. However, no injuries were reported during the incident.

    Firefighters from West Kenya Sugar Company arrived at the scene and successfully contained the fire.

    Authorities have launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.

    And police in Kiambu County launched investigations following a fire incident that destroyed six rental houses in Ngegu area on the night of April 1, 2026.

    Police officers from Kiambu, together with members of the public, responded swiftly and managed to extinguish the fire. However, nothing was salvaged from the inferno.

    No injuries were reported during the incident, though property of unknown value was destroyed.

    The cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations ongoing.
