The Board of Directors of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) appointed Mr. Moses Wekesa as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

The board said the appointment followed a rigorous and competitive recruitment process that identified Wekesa as the most suitable candidate to steer the authority’s strategic vision.

Wekesa brings extensive experience in infrastructure development, having managed high-impact projects across Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa. He previously served as Business Development Director at Kenya Electricity Generating Company, where he played a key role in driving the company’s core business growth.

His background in large-scale infrastructure projects is expected to bolster KAA’s efforts to modernize and expand Kenya’s aviation sector.

    Academic Background

Wekesa holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Applied Mechanics) from University of Nairobi, and postgraduate qualifications in Finance, Appraisal, and Project Planning from the University of Bradford.

    Transition and Acknowledgment

The board also expressed appreciation to KAA General Manager Finance, Dr. Mohamud Gedi, for his service as Acting Managing Director, noting his role in ensuring a smooth leadership transition.

KAA is currently implementing a series of transformative initiatives, including the modernization and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). The projects are aimed at enhancing Kenya’s position as a regional aviation and logistics hub while boosting the sector’s contribution to the national economy.

The board wished Wekesa success as he takes over leadership at a time when the authority is accelerating key infrastructure upgrades across the country’s airports.
