Police have recovered a consignment of cannabis sativa following a road accident along the Chemelil–Miwani–Kisumu Road in Kisumu County.
In a statement, police said officers from Miwani Police Station responded to the accident at Ombeyi Junction on June 7, 2026.
Preliminary investigations established that a white Mazda vehicle lost control, veered off the road and rolled into a ditch.
Members of the public rescued the occupants before alerting the police. However, by the time officers arrived at the scene, the occupants had fled.
A search of the vehicle and the accident scene led to the recovery of cannabis sativa that was allegedly being transported in the vehicle.
“The narcotics were recovered and secured as exhibits, while the vehicle was towed to Miwani Police Station and has been detained pending further investigations,” police said.

In a separate operation, police officers in Nairobi arrested several suspects and recovered assorted narcotics during a raid in the Laini area of Kibra.
According to police, undercover officers from Kibra Police Station conducted a sting operation following intelligence reports on suspected drug trafficking activities in the area.
The operation led to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of a variety of drugs and related items.
Among the items seized were syringes and needles, assorted liquid drugs, unidentified tablets, “Moody” tablets, several rolls of cannabis sativa, alcohol swabs, cotton wool and packets of candles.
All the suspects were taken into police custody pending processing and arraignment in court.
