An Albanian national accused of assaulting Narok businessman has been released on Ksh50,000 bail.
Amarildo Korti was arraigned before Narok Senior Principal Magistrate Tito Gesora on Tuesday and charged with assaulting Munir Harun at his petrol station in Narok town on February 15, 2019.
The court was told that the accused differed with the businessman when he was fueling his car before assaulting him.
The accused through his lawyer, Martin Kilele, objected to his client taking a plea saying he had not recorded a police statement.
Further, Kilele said the accused also had a complaint to lodge. He prayed that Korti be given time to file his complaint before the court could hear the matter.
The magistrate granted the prayer, further directing that the tourist be presented at the County Criminal Investigations Office to record a statement and file his complaint.
Further, the Magistrate directed that the accused person presents himself on Wednesday to take plea.
Last weekend, the incident went viral after the tourist was reported to have exchanged blows with the businessman.
Consequently, the incident drew the attention of Narok Senator Ledama ole Kina who accused police of taking sides in the matter.
According to the senator, the police should have arrested the two men.
“The police seem to fear Mr Muneer Ishmael, why haven’t they arrested him after equally injuring the tourist,” said Mr Kina.
Also, the tourists partner Ms Danielle Olivier accused the businessman of starting the fight.
“We were on our way to Nairobi from Maasai Mara Game Reserve when we stopped to fuel our car and fix some mechanical problems,” said Ms Olivier at Narok Police Station on Friday.
“While I was at the (Co-operative Bank) ATM, the man (Mr Ishmael) started pushing and slapping me on the face as he demanded to know why I had parked the car at the wrong place,” she said.
The confrontation arose.
“Since I was scared, I immediately left the ATM and rushed to our car and told my partner what had happened.”
However, Narok OCPD Joseph Kisombe said Ishmael suffered serious injuries on the face after he was attacked by the tourist.
“An argument arose after the tourists parked their car at the entrance of the petrol station. The standoff degenerated into a fight where Mr Ishmael suffered injuries on the face,” said Kisombe.
