    ITU Challenging Developers Interested in Creating Applications for IPTV

    IPTV Application ChallengeInternational Telecommunication Union, ITU, has launched an application challenge centered around IPTV. Participants have been invited from all over the award to develop applications running over the ITU-T IPTV standards. You have two months, July 15th to September 16th, to make an entry into the competition.

     

    Participants are encouraged to be more creative and an idea of focus areas are suggested as;

    • linear (channel service) broadcast TV, Electronic Program Guide and Video on Demand
    • games
    • e-government, e-publishing, e-commerce, e-learning and e-health services
    • photo albums
    • user-generated content
    • Fixed Mobile Convergence

    There are two categories of awards:

    Best App – Individual/SME is a cash prize award of USD10,000 for the best and most innovative application submitted by an individual or organization (profit, non-profit) with less than fifty employees. Public sector organizations, independent of their size, may not compete for this cash prize award but can participate in the next category.

    Best App – Corporate is a recognition award for the best application submitted by an organization (profit, non-profit, academic) with fifty or more employees, or a public sector organization regardless of its size.

    The showcase and awards ceremony will take place during ITU Telecom World 2011 (24-27 October 2011) in Geneva, Switzerland. The winners will also be featured in an ITU press release, on the ITU website and will obtain the right to use a specially-designed award logo on their own promotional materials.
