Adam Henrique is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre currently playing for the Edmonton Oilers in the National Hockey League.

Born on February 6, 1990, in Brantford, Ontario, he has built a reputation as a reliable two-way forward known for his defensive responsibility, faceoff skills, and clutch performances in high-stakes situations.

Henrique was selected 82nd overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and has gone on to enjoy a lengthy career spanning more than a decade in the league.

    Siblings

Adam has one sibling, a brother named Mike Henrique.

Adam’s parents, Joe and Teresa Henrique, raised the family on a tobacco and ginseng farm in Burford, Ontario, near Brantford.

Mike has played in junior leagues such as the SOJHL with the Burford Bulldogs before retiring, while Cole has also been involved in the sport at lower levels.

    Career

Henrique’s path to the NHL began in minor hockey with the Burford Coyotes and Brantford 99ers before he joined the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League.

With the Spitfires, he contributed to back-to-back Memorial Cup championships in 2009 and 2010, earning playoff MVP honors in 2010.

He turned professional after being drafted by the Devils and made his NHL debut in the 2010-11 season, but it was in 2011-12 that he truly broke out as a rookie.

During his first full NHL season with New Jersey, Henrique recorded 51 points and played a pivotal role in the Devils’ run to the 2012 Stanley Cup Final.

He became the first rookie in NHL history to score two series-clinching overtime goals in a single postseason, helping eliminate the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers en route to the final.

After several productive seasons with the Devils, he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in 2017, where he continued as a steady centre and penalty-killer.

In March 2024, Henrique was acquired by the Edmonton Oilers, adding veteran depth and leadership to their forward group as they pursued playoff success.

Throughout his career, Henrique has been valued for his versatility, often playing in all situations and providing consistent production without seeking the spotlight.

He has surpassed 1,000 NHL games and remains an active contributor into his mid-30s.

    Accolades

In the OHL and CHL, Henrique won two Memorial Cups with the Windsor Spitfires (2009 and 2010), captured the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as OHL Playoffs MVP in 2010, and earned OHL All-Star Game selection.

He also won gold with Team Ontario at the 2007 Canada Winter Games and silver with Canada at the 2010 World Junior Championships.

At the NHL level, Henrique was named to the 2011-12 All-Rookie Team and finished as a finalist for the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league’s top rookie.

He earned NHL Rookie of the Month honors for December 2011.

Internationally, he helped Canada secure gold at the 2021 IIHF World Championship and silver in 2019, earning recognition as one of Team Canada’s top three players in 2021.

Locally, he received the Frank Tomlin Memorial Award as Brantford’s Sportsman of the Year in 2013.
