Airtel recently launched a new tariff that is linked to its Airtel Money platform.

Airtel Money prepaid customers can now enjoy calls to all networks at Kshs 2 which is 50% off the normal calling rates in the market. This means that a customer will make savings on their airtime usage as the cost of living in Kenya continues to increase with basic commodity prices increasing across the board.

The call rate is viable for 7 days on any activity of Kshs100 or more on a subscriber’s Airtel Money account.

    The qualifying transactions include:

    • Paying bills
    • Sending and receiving money (customers who receive money also qualify to make calls at 2biob per minute)
    • Bank transactions (Airtel Money to Bank and Bank to Airtel Money)
    • Withdrawals
    • Purchasing airtime

This new tariff will enable users to make calls at Kshs2.00 per minute across all networks day or night in a move aimed at offering more value adding propositions to Airtel customers.

The company already offers free money transfer services that have removed the burden of traditional charges that customers on mobile networks incur while sending money to others from their phones. Regular money transfer users send up to Kshs 2,500 per month and will benefit with Airtel Money as they will make savings of between Kshs 25 to Kshs 80 per transaction. On average, users are currently charged Kshs 60 to send money to other networks.
