    Alexander Lloyd DeBrincat, commonly known as Alex DeBrincat, is an American professional ice hockey winger currently playing for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL).

    Born on December 18, 1997, in Farmington Hills, Michigan, he stands 5 feet 8 inches (173 cm) tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds (82 kg).

    He shoots right and was selected 39th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

    Despite his smaller stature, DeBrincat has earned a reputation as one of the league’s most consistent goal scorers with exceptional skill, quick release, and competitive edge.

    Alex has an older brother, Andrew DeBrincat, who is also involved in hockey.

    Born in 1993, Andrew played at Lake Forest Academy and later at American International College before turning professional.

    He has appeared in the ECHL with teams such as the Cincinnati Cyclones and Kalamazoo Wings.

    Growing up, Alex followed in his brother’s footsteps, often skating in the backyard with Andrew and their father, David.

    Career

    DeBrincat starred at Lake Forest Academy before joining the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

    In his rookie OHL season, he set a franchise record with over 50 goals and 100 points, earning CHL Rookie of the Year honors.

    He continued to dominate, posting 51 goals and 104 points in 68 games during the 2016-17 season, capturing the OHL scoring title and leading the Otters to strong playoff performances.

    After being drafted by Chicago, DeBrincat made the Blackhawks roster and quickly established himself as a top-line scorer.

    He spent five productive seasons with Chicago, often playing alongside Patrick Kane, before being traded to the Ottawa Senators in 2022.

    In Ottawa, he posted strong numbers but was moved again to his hometown Detroit Red Wings in the summer of 2023.

    He signed a four-year contract with Detroit and has thrived there, reaching the 40-goal mark multiple times and providing consistent offense.

    In the 2025-26 season, he led the Red Wings with 41 goals and 85 points in 82 games while contributing on both ends of the ice.

    DeBrincat has played nearly 700 NHL games, showcasing durability and scoring prowess throughout his career.

    Accolades

    DeBrincat’s list of honors includes multiple OHL awards such as the Emms Family Award as Rookie of the Year, the Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy as leading scorer, the Red Tilson Trophy as most outstanding player, and CHL Player of the Year.

    He has been selected to the NHL All-Star Game, including in 2021-22 and later seasons.

    Internationally, he helped Team USA win bronze at the 2018 IIHF World Championship.

    In Detroit, he has become a key leader and goal scorer, highlighted by multiple 40-goal seasons and becoming the Red Wings’ first 40-goal scorer since Marian Hossa in 2008-09.

    His journey from undersized prospect to reliable NHL star underscores his work ethic and talent.
