A policeman identified as Denice Onyango Okong’o has been charged with stealing military boots worth Sh6,454,342 from the Kenya Police Service central store in Industrial Area. Onyango is said to have broken into the stores with others not before court on August 9, when they made away with 1,826 and 398 pairs of men’s and women’s leather ankle boots. In the last 24 hours, Kenya has confirmed 379 new virus infections from a 3,867 sample size. Speaking during the daily COVID-19 briefing from Afya House, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi said that the virus load is currently at 31,015. The new cases were of 372 Kenyans and 7 foreigners, 223 of whom were males while 156 were females. The youngest case was a 1 year old infant while the oldest was an 87 year old person. Former high-flying assistant minister and Garsen MP Danson Mungatana has been released on Sh200,000 cash bail. His business associate and co-accused Collins Waweru was also freed on bail. 39 people among them teenagers were on Tuesday evening arrested at a house party in Bondeni Estate, Muhoroni. Former Nakumatt CEO Atul Shah will soon have his personal assets worth at least Sh2 billion auctioned. Bank of Africa has the go-ahead from the High Court to sell the assets, a move that will see the lender recover at least Sh700 million of the money owed to them. Egerton University has in the making a plan to lay off more than 400 staff members as tough financial times persist due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.
