Starehe MP Charles Njagua Kanyi alias Jaguar was on Friday acquitted of incitement charges against foreigners. The lawmaker was in June 2019 arrested for allegedly making xenophobic remarks against Tanzanian and Chinese traders. 17 employees at a leading International School have tested positive for the deadly Coronavirus. Nakuru county health CEC Gichuki Kariuki on Friday said that the staffers from St Andrews Turi in Molo were among the 23 positive cases reported in the county between Wednesday and Thursday, this week. According to Mr Gichuki, 26 Covid-19 patients are admitted in; PGH Isolation facility (15), 7 at the Langalanga isolation facility and 7 others at Naivasha isolation facility. 30 others have been discharged after making a full recovery, he added. Lang’ata Hospital director Dr Ashoke Singh Matharu, and three other employees were on Thursday arraigned and charged with stocking unvalidated and expired laboratory reagents. The others were; Muffadal Ammar HassamJee (operations manager) and Herbert Cheruiyot Charles (lab technician) and Beatrice Awino (lab technician). According to court documents the four had in their possession expired medical laboratory reagent namely bilirubin (T),combi 35, Ast Got, Actone, Area Bun/UV, Magnesium, Trigs,Excel, Labsystems, Bsa Accurate against the Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Act. Delvine Enock Moses was arraigned at Milimani Law Courts where he answered for three other cases. The nurse entered a not guilty plea and was released on a Sh150,000 cash bail. Lang’ata Hospital was on Wednesday raided by Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technology Board (KMLTTB) officials over fake Covid-19 tests. The facility’s laboratories were shut down after it was found that some of the technicians were colluding with others at Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) to conduct Coronavirus tests. The tests were apparently going for Sh5,500 with the samples being ferried to Kemri in an ambulance for testing. In a petition filed in court on Wednesday, Elijah Gicharu Kimani cited nepotism, abuse of office and conflict of interest in awarding CDF tenders as some of the reasons why the legislator is unfit to unfit to hold office. Kenya’s total virus cases have on Tuesday risen to 8,250 after 183 persons tested positive. Speaking during the daily COVID-19 briefing, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said that the positive cases are from a 2,061 sample size. Of the new cases, 177 are Kenyans while 6 are foreign nationals. In terms of gender, the newly dected infections are of 119 males and 64 females aged between 4 and 79 years.
