Kenya has in the last 24 hours confirmed 178 new cases of COVID-19. Speaking during the daily COVID-19 briefing at Afya House, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi said that this was after testing a 3,918 sample size. The new infections have pushed Kenya’s virus load to 5,384. Of the new cases, 123 are males while 55 are females aged between the ages of 1 and 76. There was drama at City Hall after suspected goons attempted to attack assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi. According to Citizen, the speaker was in the company of 30 members of the county assembly who spent the night at City Hall. Elachi said that the rowdy youths were in the company of former majority leader Abdi Guyo. A Thursday morning inferno has razed down Gikomba market’s cereals and second hand clothing sections. The cause of fire is yet to be established. Eight Kenya School of Law (KSL) employees were on Wednesday arraigned in court. They were charged with conspiracy to defraud the institution Sh198.4 Million for goods and services not delivered. Kenya has confirmed 254 new cases of COVID-19, health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi has announced. This was after testing a 4,859 sample size in the last 24 hours. The newly detected infections raise the total number of cases to 5,206. All the positive cases are Kenyans between the age of 4 and 92 years. 186 of them are males while 68 are females. Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) has rubbished claims that a road is being constructed within the Nairobi National Park, destroying the animals’ natural habitat. Kenyans online were irked by a picture doing rounds on social media which showed constructions works were underway at the park. Classrooms will hold between 15 to 20 learners when schools reopen, Education CS Prof George Magoha has said. This will help ensure the learners maintain the required 1.5 metres social distance between them so as to contain the spread of COVID-19. Two suspects named in the Sh198.4 Million scandal involving the Kenya School of Law (KSL) have been apprehended. Hudson Amwai (accountant) at the school and Fridah Ngoya (Ngoya Cosmetics proprietor) were arrested in Kaimosi, Vihiga County by EACC officers. Embattled Kirinyaga governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru has referred to the allegations brought forward by the ward representatives as malicious. Police officer accused of killing 13 year old Yassin Moyo was on Tuesday charged with murder. Mr Ndiema pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. Duncan Ndiema will be held at Capitol Hill Police Station as he awaits his bail application tomorrow. Ndiema was supposed to enter his plea two days ago but was a no-show after he exhibited COVID-19 symptoms. Sirisia MP John Walukhe will lose his seat after a Nairobi Court found him guilty in a Sh297 million National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) fraud case. He and former Environment CS Judy Wakhungu’s mother, Grace Wakhungu, who was also found guilty, will be held at Kileleshwa Police Station pending their sentencing on June 25.
