22 senators affiliated with Deputy President William Ruto have written to Speaker Ken Lusaka over the alleged changes made in the house leadership. In a letter dated 11 May by Nakuru senator Susan Kihika, the Tanga Tanga senators have termed the changes null and void. According to Ms Kihika, the quorum needed for the removal of the majority leader or majority chief whip was not met. The government has released at least 7,000 inmates due to the novel COVID-19 that has hit the country. According to Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, the move is meant to decongest prisons in the wake of coronavirus. Further, the CS noted, two prisoners from the Industrial Area prison have tested positive for the deadly respiratory disease. The two patients had come into contact with some 42 prisoners who have since been isolated. Former vice president and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka says the party is ready to join the KANU-Jubilee pact heading to 2022 general elections. KTN investigative reporter Franklin Wallah was on Saturday mugged outside a police station by men on boda bodas. According to the crime reporter, the robbery happened outside Kariobangi Police Station at around 4 pm. Taking to Facebook, Wallah indicated that the muggers made away with his phone but was grateful that he survived the ordeal. “Yesterday at around 4 p.m. a group of boys on a motorbike attacked me and robbed me along Outering /Kangundo Road junction. The government has banned hawking and all sorts of gatherings within Eastleigh and Old Town Mombasa. This was after the two areas were identified as potential high risk areas. Addressing reporters from Afya Centre, Health CAS Rashid Aman urged Kenyans to continue observing laid down guidelines so as to flatten the curve. “In order to accelerate the flattening of the curves, more measures within Eastleigh and Town include prohibition of hawking and any form of public gathering,” he said. Kenya’s virus cases have risen to 621 after 14 of the 922 samples tested in the last 24 hours tested positive. 10 of the new cases are from Nairobi, 3 from Mombasa and one from Machakos, Health CAS Rashid Aman said on Friday. 4 of the 10 cases are from Kasarani, Makadara 2, and one each in Umoja, South C, Dagoreti South and a quarantine facility. Kenya’s National Environment Management Authority (Nema) on Friday shut down Hotel Boulevard, located along Harry Thuku road in Nairobi. According to the authority, the hotel has been releasing untreated waste into Nairobi River. “NEMA has stopped operations of Boulevard Hotel in Nairobi with immediate effect for discharging untreated effluent into Nairobi River. The family of gospel singer Ruth Matete has accused the Nigerian Embassy of delaying John Apewajoye’s burial plans. According to Matete’s lawyer Robert Odanga, the embassy has declined to release the body for final burial rites. This, he says, has forced the family to resort to seek funds from wellwishers as mortuary fees balloon. “Even after conducting the autopsy with four independent pathologists present, the embassy has curtailed our effort to remove John’s body for burial,” Mr Odanga told Spice FM. Joshua Waiganjo, a man who shocked the country in 2012 after it was said that he had for years impersonated a police officer, was on Wednesday night arrested for violating curfew orders. He is said to have gone past a police roadblock erected at the Komarock junction.
