The government has released at least 7,000 inmates due to the novel COVID-19 that has hit the country. According to Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, the move is meant to decongest prisons in the wake of coronavirus. Further, the CS noted, two prisoners from the Industrial Area prison have tested positive for the deadly respiratory disease. The two patients had come into contact with some 42 prisoners who have since been isolated. KTN investigative reporter Franklin Wallah was on Saturday mugged outside a police station by men on boda bodas. According to the crime reporter, the robbery happened outside Kariobangi Police Station at around 4 pm. The government has banned hawking and all sorts of gatherings within Eastleigh and Old Town Mombasa. This was after the two areas were identified as potential high risk areas. Kenya’s National Environment Management Authority (Nema) on Friday shut down Hotel Boulevard, located along Harry Thuku road in Nairobi. According to the authority, the hotel has been releasing untreated waste into Nairobi River. “NEMA has stopped operations of Boulevard Hotel in Nairobi with immediate effect for discharging untreated effluent into Nairobi River. The family of gospel singer Ruth Matete has accused the Nigerian Embassy of delaying John Apewajoye’s burial plans. According to Matete’s lawyer Robert Odanga, the embassy has declined to release the body for final burial rites.
