Debt-saddled Uchumi on Thursday received a major reprieve after the High Court gave the retailer additional 30 days to conclude talks with secured creditors on agreeing to the Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA). In a statement, Uchumi CEO Mohammed Mohammed said that the struggling retail chain has so far managed to get KCB, Co-operative Bank and ICDC to endorse the CVA under various terms. The management, Mr Mohammed mentioned is still in talks with the government which has a 14.6 per cent stake and UBA Bank which has been seeking to dispose of Uchumi’s land to settle a Sh172 million debt.…

Retired President Daniel Moi has been discharged from the Nairobi Hospital after a two week stay. The former head of state was apparently admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after developing breathing problems. Foreign Correspondents’ Association of East Africa (FCAEA) representing journalists covering the region for foreign media organisations has rebuked the recent expulsion of two of its members from South Sudan. Six days ago, an Associated Press (AP) journalist Sam Mednick had her press accreditation revoked for six months, forcing her out of the country. Four City Hall employees were on Wednesday charged with creating disturbance at Integrity Centre during Governor Mike Sonko’s interrogation. University of Nairobi (UoN) lecturer, Hannah Inyama who kept her dead son’s body in the house for close to two weeks is not fit to stand trial, a court was told.
