NEP Girls Secondary School in Garissa was on Tuesday closed after five students tested positive for Covid-19. The girls were sent home for a 10 day period as the Principal holds talks with the County Commissioner and education officials. On Tuesday, Kenya announced 1,488 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s case load to 222,894 with a positivity rate of 15.2 percent. In a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the new infections were from a sample size of 9,773. The cumulative tests stand at 2,268,923. The death toll is currently at 4,354 after four other patients succumbed to the disease on diverse dates. Kagwe said that there are 1,970 patients currently admitted in various hospitals across the country. Another, 8,408 patients are on the home-based care programme. Inspector general of police Hilary Mutyambai has named Bruno Isohi Shioso as the new Police Spokesperson. Shioso, from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has been on a UN secondment mission in New York, heading the Serious and Organized Crime Team (SOC). “Bruno Shioso is the new Police Spokesman,” Mutyambai said on Tuesday. He previously served as the Criminal Investigations Officers (CCIO) in Mombasa County. Shioso specializes in transnational organized crime. Six police officers allegedly involved in the killing of two Kianjokoma brothers will be detained for 14 days at Capital Hill pending completion of probe, a Nairobi court has ruled. A Nairobi businesswoman risks spending two years behind bars for keeping Sh271,200 deposited into her M-Pesa account erroneously. Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has claimed to be the victim in an alleged case of attempted sexual assault at the Maiyan Villa Resort in Nanyuki on January 29. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has recommended six officers linked to the death of Kianjokoma brothers be charged with murder. Inspector general of police Hilary Mutyambai has ordered a probe into a raid at Spasso Bar in Karen by his officers. According to the Standard, two senior investigators from the internal affairs unit have already visited the posh bar and recorded statements from witnesses.
