The government is seeking to recover money paid to a Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) official accused of forging academic certificates. Lillian Akoth who was on Tuesday arraigned before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Peter Gesora faced charges ranging from forgery, fraudulent acquisition of public property (salary), and violation of the Leadership and Integrity Act (2012). Two men were on Tuesday nabbed for being in possession of fake currencies worth at least Sh750 million. The duo, Samuel Maina and Boniface Mungai, were trailed to a Kilimani apartment where police discovered the fake monies. The fake currencies were in US Dollars of 100 bills totaling 6,820,000 US Dollars, fake Euros 100 bills amounting to 490,000 Euros and fake Kenya shillings notes of 1000 denomination estimated at Sh6.4 million. One of the four men suspected to have been abducted in Kitengela had a case pending in court. Benjamin Amache Imbai had a robbery case at the Kibera Law Courts and another criminal case at the Mavoko law courts. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set Kiambaa MP and Muguga MCA by-elections for July 15. In a gazette notice dated April 23, the commission has asked political parties seeking to contest the seats to submit names of candidates taking part in a party primary and date of party primary by May 3. Firearms featured in a Citizen TV exposé dubbed “Guns galore” did not belong to the National Police Service (NPS), Inspector general of police Hillary Mutyambai has said. Kenya Power has explained the cause of a hitch experienced by prepaid customers on Sunday. In a statement on Monday, the lighting company said they have fixed the IT hitch but the system remains slow due to the high number of transactions. While the prepaid vending system is back, their contact centre remains unreachable. “We have managed to address the IT hitch affecting the system that occurred yesterday but vending of tokens remains slow due to a high number of customer transactions,” said the company. 773 people have contracted Covid-19 from a sample size of 7,036 tested in the last 24 hours. Total confirmed positive cases now stand at 155,165 from 1,631,699 cumulative tests conducted so far. The National Lands Commission (NLC) head of Investigations Antipas Nyanjwa died of a heart attack, an autopsy exam concluded. The postmortem exam was conducted by Government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor at the Montezuma Monalisa funeral home. The deceased’s brother, Kennedy, told reporters that results of more tests could change the official cause of the death later. “Dr Oduor realised there was some bit of lack of oxygen in Nyanjwa’s blood.
