The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is losing over Ksh8 billion every month to rogue businessmen in the alcohol and beverages industry, a new dossier has shown. According to a suit filed by a bar owner, Mr Justus Mombis, most of the money is lost through the sale of 250-millilitre spirits, which are suspected to be manufactured, distributed and sold illegally. Telegram has launched group video calls on the app, a year after announcing its development. The company announced that the latest update would allow users to turn on their cameras and share their screens on all devices. “Voice chats in any group can now seamlessly turn into group video calls – just tap the camera icon to switch your video on.” the blog post reads. This follows an agreement inked between the government of Kenya, Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and World Rally Championship (WRC). A consignment of fake gold bars has been seized by detectives, from a strong room belonging to Swissport Transit Freight station, at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).  The fake gold bars concealed in 31 boxes received from Uganda, had been stored at the airport by unnamed shadowy businessmen, dealing in the lucrative gold business on the pretext that it was cargo awaiting transit to different destinations across the world. Somali regional authorities in Galkayo town have executed 18 Al-Shabaab militants convicted for the assassinations of elite community leaders over the years, including elders, officers and journalists. This is the largest single execution of Al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia. This comes days after the Somali National Army’s commandos destroyed secret bases belonging to Al-Shabaab terrorists in a planned security operation in the Middle Shabelle region. The Covid-19 positivity rate in kenya now stands at 7.6 percent after 508 people tested positive in the last 24 hours. The cases were confirmed from a sample size of 6,664. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 182,393, and the cumulative tests to 1,940,066. Statistics from the Ministry of Healyh show that 539 patients have recovered from the disease, 296 from the Home Based and Isolation Care program and 243 from various health facilities.  This brings the total number of recoveries to 134,392. Social media administrators could soon be required to obtain licenses before setting up groups. A bill sponsored by Malava MP Malulu Injendi proposes that Facebook and Whatsapp group administrators be jailed for allowing users to publish offensive content. The administrators will be required to obtain permission from the CA to set up groups on social media, and control the discussions therein. “A social media user shall ensure that any content published, written or shared through the social media platform does not degrade or intimidate a recipient of the content.” The bill states. Cytonn Investment PLC has sued the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) for sanctioning criminal investigations against the company over its two money market products, the Cytonn High Yield Solutions and Cytonn Private Notes (CPN). In the last 24 hours, 646 people have tested positive for Covid-19 from a sample size of 6,429. This brings the positivity rate to 10.1 percent and the total number of confirmed cases to 181,885 from a cumulative number of 1,933,402 test samples. Instagram has started testing a feature that could soon allow users to post from their Desktops. Facebook confirmed the news to Bloomberg after Social media consultant Matt Navara spotted the feature. “We know that many people access Instagram from their computer,” spokesperson Christine Pai said. “To improve that experience, we’re now testing the ability to create a Feed post on Instagram with their desktop browser.” According to Navarra, users will be able to edit their posts by selecting their preferred aspect ratios, applying built-in filters and so on. The office of the Data Protection Commissioner has weighed in on the registration of Kenyans to Political parties without consent. The Data commissioner, Immaculate Kassait issued a statement saying it was the prerogative of the political parties to de-register the names of the complainants. At least 300 Kenyan youths who had joined terror group Al-Shabaab have surrendered to Kenyan authorities, the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) has said.
