Telkom Kenya has announced today that it has signed an agreement with Eaton Towers for the management of its passive network infrastructure. The fifteen-year tower management and leasing deal is for both the maintenance of existing sites by Eaton Towers and the building of new sites. Orange looks to reduce the operating costs and capital expenditure, while improving network coverage and quality, as well as reducing it’s overall carbon footprint. Safaricom has today launched an initiative meant to attract more users into the internet. The Vuma Online campaign will see Matatus in selected routes offer free internet. The initiative was launched this morning by Safaricom CEO, Bob Collymore, in Buru Buru. All Matatus offering free Wi-Fi connection will have a Vuma Online sticker. Already over 20 Matatus plying the Rongai, Kayole and Buru Buru routes have the service up and running. Last year, KT Corp had its offer to buy 20% of Telkom South Africa blocked by the country’s government. Now the company has clinched a deal in Rwanda where it is to pump $140 million to build the country’s 4G network.
