Two miners were Monday killed in separate incidents as they ventured into gold mining sites in Siaya County. The first incident happened when a 24-year-old man was killed after a goldmine collapsed in Masumbi village, Kogelo, Siaya County. The man was among a group of miners who had ventured into the mining site when the incident happened on August 11 morning. He was identified as Stephen Rabwogi, 24. A man was attacked and killed by a hippopotamus at Lake Nakuru. The incident happened on August 7 in the Bondeni area, police and Kenya Wildlife Service officials said. The body of the man was retrieved from the water three days later on August 10. This was after a team composed of locals, police and KWS staged a search in the area. A second person died after an explosion tore through a Pennsylvania steel plant on Monday, local officials have confirmed. The body was discovered after a search operation which stretched into the evening at the US Steel Clairton site outside Pittsburgh. Hellen Ikareut was charged at the JKIA court with an offence of trafficking cannabis, to wit 4186.34 grams with a market value of Sh125,590.20. A businessman was shot and killed in an attack in Kegonga area, Kuria, Migori County. The motive of the Sunday August 10 night shooting is yet to be established, police said. Detectives are investigating the murder of a man whose decomposed body was found lying in the cabin of a lorry days after his murder in Rongo Town, Migori County. A 36-year-old was found murdered and his body set on fire in a village in Makueni County. Police said Vitalis Mutinda Kituku was killed over a land dispute he has had with his neighbours in the area.
