Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja revealed that City Hall’s commercial disputes, including the ongoing one with Kenya Power, will now be resolved directly with Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi. The death toll from a Sudanese military plane crash in the city of Omdurman increased to at least 46 people, officials said Wednesday. The Khartoum Media Office said the crash also injured 10 others. The initial death toll of 19 was provided by the health ministry. The Antonov aircraft crashed Tuesday while taking off from the Wadi Sayidna air base north of Omdurman, the military said in a statement. Omdurman is the sister city of the capital, Khartoum. Armed police officers were deployed to Kenya Power and Lighting Company offices where a standoff with the Nairobi County officials had paralysed operations. The officers facilitated the removal of the county lorries that had blocked roads to the Stima Plaza for two days affecting operations. Kenya Power had asked staff to work from home, as their offices were rendered unbearable. This is after the county government disconnected water supply to the building and blocked the sewer line in the ensuing standoff. A police officer was shot and injured by his colleague in a standoff outside the Nairobi residence of South Sudan President Salva Kiir. Constable Denis Okenye is nursing a gunshot wound in his right thigh after he was on Tuesday February 25 night shot by his colleague at the compound, police said. The incident happened on Tuesday night along Gigiri Road after a dramatic chase. President Kiir, like many other foreign presidents has several properties in the city, which are guarded by armed police officers. At least seven people drowned in separate incidents reported in the country. The victims include a 12-year-old girl who drowned in a family borehole. The first incident happened in Bangale, Tana River where a man drowned in a well. The man was fetching water from the well when he slid therein and drowned on February 23 evening. Hundreds of thousands of people have signed a petition to revoke Elon Musk’s Canadian citizenship amid tensions between the Trump administration and Canada. A 42-year-old Kenyan man was arrested after allegedly shooting his 37-year-old wife multiple times at their home in Killeen, Texas. John Gitau Mwangi was arrested following the fatal shooting of his 37-year-old wife, Esther Gitau, on Friday, 21 February, police said. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) revealed Tuesday it requires Sh61.7 billion for the 2027 general election. Deputy Chief Executive Officer  Obadiah Keitany told Parliament the commission’s budget for boundary delimitation is Sh7 billion, but still awaits court advisory. “The commission projects an additional 5.7 million new voters, to have a total of 28 million in the 2027 election,” Keitany said. A fight between two Chinese nationals forced a Qatar Airways flight to divert to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The plane was headed for Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday February 23 afternoon when the pilot reported he was diverting to JKIA for an emergency case. On landing, it emerged a passenger had collapsed in the plane and needed medical attention. This is after he was hit by a fellow passenger, who was Chinese in an altercation that turned violent. Police are investigating an incident in which two men were found dead on the roadside along Mombasa Road, Athi River area, Machakos County. The victims had deep panga cuts and seemed to have been killed elsewhere and dumped at the site on February 22 morning. Police said a third victim is fighting for his life in hospital after the tragedy. The motive of the incident is yet to be known.
