Allies including the US, UK and EU Wednesday called for a temporary ceasefire in Lebanon, following an escalation in fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. The 12-strong bloc proposed an immediate 21-day pause in fighting “to provide space for diplomacy towards the conclusion of a diplomatic settlement” and a ceasefire in Gaza. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is facing federal criminal charges, according to US media.  Adams, a retired police captain, was elected to lead the most populous US city nearly three years ago on a promise to rein in crime. The Court of Appeal sitting in Nairobi dismissed a petition filed by former Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero seeking to stop Ethics Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) from investigating his bank accounts.  The Judgement was delivered on Friday, September 20 2024 by justices Daniel Musinga, Milton Makhandia and Sankale Kantai. A 36-year-old man was trailed and shot dead outside his gate in Parklands area, Nairobi.  Detectives are looking for the gunmen and motive into the shooting of Sagar Panara who is an employee at MART Networks. Police said he was shot dead by unknown assailants in what appears to be a targeted attack on Tuesday September 24 evening. According to police Panara was shot as he returned home from the Aga Khan Sports Club, raising the possibility that he was being trailed. A group of activists has challenged the appointment of Douglas Kanja as the Inspector General of police over allegations that he was not subjected to a competitive recruitment process. The group led by Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, Eliud Karanja and Dr Magare Gikenyi told Justice Bahati Mwamuye that Kanja was not the qualified candidate for the position. Multi agency teams are searching for suspects behind the recovered bomb making materials in a guesthouse Garissa Town. The team said the materials were meant to make an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) for use at undisclosed place. A team raided Elson Guest House within Garissa Township on September 22 at night and recovered a white sack hidden under the bed in one of the rooms. Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has successfully captured 60 hyenas in Juja as part of “Operation Ondoa Fisi,” which was launched in response to a series of deadly attacks in the area. Officials said some hyenas were killed in the exercise that was meant to address the outcry over increased deadly attacks by the animals.
