More details have emerged on the man who was stabbed in a car in Eldoret Town.  Officials identified him as Benjamin Kiplagat, a Ugandan. He lived in Kimumu area with his brother where he was found murdered on Sunday December 31. He represented Uganda in three Olympic games and six world championships. Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta Sunday sent a congratulatory message to President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on his re election.  In his message, Kenyatta urged the president-elect to embrace peace and unify the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. “Peace and unity are the foundations of a prosperous country,” he said. An athlete was Sunday morning found murdered in Eldoret Town, police said. Police identified the runner as Edward Kiplangat alias Benjamin, 37. He was from Elgeyo Marakwet County and was a long distance runner specialising in 3,000 meters steeplechase. Two more victims have succumbed bringing the total fatalities to seven in the Eveready Roundabout accident in Nakuru County. The Sunday morning accident involved a 14 seater matatu and a long distance trailer. Survivors were rushed to Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital for advanced treatment. Those planning to light fireworks on New Year’s have been advised to obtain permits. State Department for Mining clarified in a statement that the directive complied with the Explosives Act, which mandates stringent guidelines for the sale, handling, and regulation of fireworks. The government also mandated that officials from the State Department of Mining be informed of and present at any New Year’s fireworks displays. The Explosives Act states that no one may hold a public fireworks display without an inspector’s written approval. A Rwandan woman was Saturday arrested as she led a group of hit men to a hotel she planned to kill her Swiss boyfriend in Nairobi’s Westlands area.  The woman and her brother were also carrying a jerrican full of acid which they planned to douse the body with once the man was dead. China will simplify visa applications for tourists from the United States from January 1, cutting the documents required, according to a notice on Friday on the website of the Chinese embassy in Washington. The move is the latest by China to revive tourism and boost the world’s second-largest economy following a slump during the COVID-19 pandemic. A Soviet-era Antonov-24 aircraft carrying 30 passengers landed on a frozen river near an airport in Russia’s far east on Thursday because of pilot error, transport prosecutors said. Ten suspects were arrested for transporting and selling donkey meat in parts of Makueni County.  The ten were arrested on Saturday after police intercepted two motor vehicles ferrying donkey meat. Preliminary investigations suggest that the donkey meat was on transport to Shauri Moyo Market in Nairobi, police said. After interrogating the suspects, police successfully identified the location where the donkeys were slaughtered. Police officers in Nairobi’s Industrial Area arrested a group of intruders who unlawfully invaded Highway Secondary School on Saturday morning, targeting the staff quarters. The suspects, allegedly dispatched by a private developer claiming legal ownership of the school’s land, attempted to forcibly remove the school’s teachers. Two men were stoned to death and burned by an angry mob who claimed they were cow thieves along Murang’a – Sagana road near Kabuta shopping centre.  The mob also torched a lorry the two were using in ferrying a herd of cows to Nairobi on Saturday December 30 morning.
